Jonathan Samuels

Australia Correspondent

Jonathan Samuels is Sky News Australia Correspondent. Previously he was Chief Correspondent at Channel 5 News where he covered the major national and international stories of recent years including the election of Barack Obama when he broadcast live from Chicago as the result was announced.

Jonathan has reported from numerous trouble spots including Iraq where he interviewed British sailors working in the waters close to Iran. Days later those same sailors were captured by the Iranian authorities, creating worldwide headlines.

Jonathan has also reported from Israel on a number of occasions including the conflicts with Gaza and Lebanon.

He also went into Zimbabwe, undercover, to report on the elections in 2008 when Western journalists were banned from the country.

More recently Jonathan has reported on a number of natural disasters including devastating floods in Pakistan in 2010 and in Queensland, Australia in 2011. He was also sent to cover the earthquake and Tsunami which hit Japan.

One of the furthest places Jonathan has travelled is the tiny island nation of Kiribati in the centre of the Pacific Ocean where residents believe their country is sinking as a result of climate change.

Other stories have taken him to Chile to report on the safe return of the trapped miners stuck underground for more than two months, Los Angeles for the trial, and later death, of Michael Jackson, and New York’s Ground Zero following the killing of Osama Bin Laden.
